Cadzand

Profile? Fashionable seaside resort with picturesque characteristics.
Location? Mouth of the Westerschelde, Zeeland Flanders.
Reason? An excellent village for something special with the children. Fossil shark teeth can be found.
Museums? The mill or an illuminated mill tour by night.
More? Boulevard the Wielingen (looks like the Acropolis in Athens), with Doric columns and special lighting. Extensive routes for walkers and cyclists.

Domburg

Profile? Oldest seaside resort of Zeeland. Former health resort. Busy, but picturesque and clean.
Location? The North Sea coast of Walcheren
Reason? Beautiful beaches, cosy village has always been a source of inspiration for painters and artists.
Museums? Castle Westhove, the Biological Museum of Zeeland (6, Duinvlietweg, tel: (+31) (0)118 58 26 20), the Museum of Marie Tak van Poortvliet.
More? Manteling nature reserve, the Mondriaan route, leisure pool ‘de Parel’.

Oostkappelle

Profile: Dazzling village with many activities and markets.
Location? The North Sea coast of Walcheren
Reason? Versatile beach. Ability to sunbathe, swim, surf, ride horses, or fly a kite. The beach has a Blue Flag, which means that children can safely play here.
Museums? The Biological Museum of Zeeland (6, Duinvlietweg, tel: (+31) (0)118 58 26 20).
More? Shows with traditional costumes, tilting at the ring, the church, miniature golf.

Oostvoorne

Profile? Imposing seaside resort with large houses and wide leafy streets
Location? The islands of South Holland
Reason? Two beaches: the Maasvlakte beach and the car beach, both very wide beaches where you can surf, parasail and sea kayak.
Museums? The former fortress of the Lords of Voorne (1100).
More? A 12km walking tour along the coast to the Haringvliet Dam, the Dunes of Voorne nature reserve, golf courses.

Ouddorp

Profile? An outstanding example of a family resort.
Location? In the west of the island Goerree-Overflakkee
Reason? The beach is 18 km long and is made up of four separate beaches: the coast beach Brouwers Dam, the coast beach Lighthouse, the Northern beach and the coast beach Flauwe Werk. The first is the most popular and is the most convenient.

More? Aquatics at the Grevelingen Lake, boat tour over the lake from the visitors’ centre ‘De Punt’.

Profile? Quiet, small seaside resort, perfect place for cycling and walking tours.
Location? The Westside of the island of Voorne
Reason? A large beach to the south (the sun on your face the whole day), almost no water currents, ability to visit the Haringvliet Lake on a water scooter.
Museums? The Dune Houses museum.
More? A colony of spoonbills near the Quackjes water, cormorants near the Brede water.

Flushing (Vlissingen)

Profile? Dazzling port and resort.
Location? In the south of Walcheren, at the Westerschelde
Reason? Beaches have all kind of services. Close pubs, restaurants, showers and toilets. Jet-skis are allowed too!
Museums? The MuZEEum, the maratime museum The Arsenal (with a tall watchtower), reptile zoo ‘Inguana’.
More? The Prisoners’ tower, the port of Michiel de Ruyter, an enclosed shopping mall, extra large cinema and amusement arcade, ‘de Caroussel’.

Vrouwenpolder

Profile? Former place of pilgrimage, nowadays a cosy seaside resort for both young and old.
Location? In the north of Walcheren, at the Oosterschelde, close to the Veerse Gat Dam.
Reason? Largest beach of Walcheren, situated between two nature reserves, ‘De Manteling’ and ‘Oranjezon’.
Museums? Simple church from 1624 (with Medieval wall remnants).
More? Many activities on the beach and in the village itself, a beach volleyball competition, surfing on the Lake of Veere, walking areas.

Westkapelle

Profile? Tower of strength
Location? The most western place of the Netherlands, located in Walcheren
Reason? The beach has been awarded a Blue Flag, thus it is clean, safe and there is even wheelchair access.
Museums? The two lighthouses (http://westkapellehoog.vuurtorens.net/), the Museum of Fruit.
More? Get a breath of fresh air on the sea dike in the winter

Zoutelande

Profile? Quiet, pleasant and cosy village, also known as the ‘Zeeland Riviera’.
Location? In the south of Walcheren, at the Westerschelde
Reason? The beach is five kilometres long and is sheltered by the tallest dunes in the surroundings. On average, it is several degrees Celsius warmer here than in other seaside resorts.
Museums? Doll and Traditional Clothing Museum.
More? Shops, sidewalk cafes, cycling and walking tours.
